Average balloon numbers

How many Balloons?

This is a question I am asked daily, so I thought I would break it down for you. This document is an AVERAGE amount of 13” balloons, Not an exact amount of balloons. So it will be just a rough guide. Everyones style is different and please bare that in mind.

Single hoop (1.8meter hoop) – Average 26 clusters of 6 = 156 balloons. However I would probably do clusters of 8 to make it thicker. So allow 200 balloons. It wouldn’t be 26 clusters of 8, it would be less than that as the clusters are thicker.

Double hoop (1.8 meter hoop) – Average 42 clusters of 6 = 252 balloons. Don’t forget you will be adding in 19” balloons, so that number would be less. However everyones style and sizing is different so that number will fluctuate.

Easel – 13 clusters of 8s and 6s = Average of 80 balloons. So I would allow 100 balloons. Don’t forget you will need 5” balloons too.

Garlands and anything that is garland orientated eg, sailboards – 1 meter of balloons is 4 clusters of 8 or 6 (whatever your style), that’s without any added thickness, its just the spine! so if you add 2 mini clusters to each meter of spine for thickness (small cluster of 6), that would be 6 clusters in total per meter.

6 clusters x 8 balloons(worst case scenario) = 48 balloons

So lets break this down, so you can see an example. A customer wants a 3 meter long garland (2 meters high by 1 meter wide) the dreaded ‘L shaped garland’!

3 meters with no extra thickness balloons is 12 clusters. Then youre going to add thickness. 3meters x 2 mini clusters = 6 clusters extra. So in total that’s 18 clusters on AVERAGE. Please remember this is just a rough estimate. If you want a really thick garland you will obviously be adding more.

Balloon walls -  This is a really hard one to do an average of because each wall is a different height and width. But if you go off of the standard pipe and drape height and width it would work out as 8 clusters high x 8 wide = 8 clusters per garland going up and there will be 8 of them. 8 x 8 =64 clusters. 64 clusters x 8 balloons = 512 balloons. That’s having your pipe and drape at 2 meters x 2 meters.
